Doctors Nancy Elliott and Dana Holwitt to Receive American Cancer Society's Luster for LIfe Award
On Saturday November 19th the American Cancer Society will host its 32nd Annual Diamond Ball. The theme of this year’s gala is: “Brilliance In Our Community.” We are delighted to share that Dr. Nancy Elliott and Dr. Dana Holwitt have been among the few selected as 3rd annual Luster for Life recipients. Our physicians have won this honor because of their overall dedication to patients while being cancer survivors themselves. Luster for Life honorees are comfortable telling their stories to patients and their families and have a special zest for life. As top breast cancer surgeons, they have embraced the importance of early detection and a healthy lifestyle for themselves and all women. They truly are Luster for Life women who live life to the fullest while taking care of and curing others of cancer.
The entire Montclair Breast Center staff will be celebrating the evening with Dr. Elliott and Dr. Holwitt. We would like to extend an invitation to all of our patients, colleagues and friends to attend this very special event at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston. There are many ways to participate; you could sponsor a table of ten or more, sponsor a survivor story in the tribute journal or donate a gift for the auction. Most important is to see you there enjoying yourselves in the joyous affirmation that Life is Good! Please call 973-509-1818 for more details.

Dr. Nancy Elliott attends NCoBC conference
March 18, 2011--Dr. Nancy Elliott has recently returned from the 21st Annual National Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference of the National Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc. (NCoBC) held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The focus of the conference was to bring together professionals involved with breast health care from across the nation to exchange ideas and to learn about advances and new techniques. In addition, various manufacturers were on hand to share information about their new products.
As today’s women are taking a more active role in understanding their treatment options, breast care professionals must be prepared to address advances in imaging, breast symptoms, and the full array of treatment options. Patient education, concurrent with constant professional development of physicians, medical assistants and office staff has been an inherent philosophy for Montclair Breast Center. Attendees of NCoBC learned about the advantages of a multiple modality approach to enable optimal patient care (a philosophy embraced by MBC from its inception); participated in discussions on the correlation between radiology and pathology regarding breast disease; were informed about scientific evidence to support early detection and treatment in early stage cancer; and heard panelists discuss the interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Digital mammography, MRI, controversies in screening, legal aspects of providing care, physician executives, genomic quality, delivering excellence, funding, billing, coding and economics were also part of the program.
Speakers emphasized the need for breast health care providers to remember that the patient is the focus when providing services and care. Hundreds of breast health care professionals from across the country attended this conference.
Dr. Elliott was happy to attend with colleagues and staff and said “We returned energized and inspired to continue our work as innovative leaders in breast center quality.”

Montclair Breast Center Surgeons attend first ever Conference on Nipple Sparing Mastectomy
On February 3-5, Drs. Holwitt and Elliott were in Washington DC to attend the Breast Cancer Coordinated Care Conference sponsored by Georgetown University Hospital.
The conference presentations and panel discussions focused on the coordination of care and communication between the plastic surgeons and the breast surgeons when performing complex breast surgery. Recently nipple sparing mastectomy for women at increased risk as well as for women with breast cancer is becoming more accepted in selected patients. Each patient needs to be individually evaluated as to their suitability for this procedure and informed of the risks and benefits.
Dr. Elliott commented " Montclair Breast Center has always been ahead of it's time. We started coordinated care 20 years ago and now the rest of the nation is just catching up."
